Training

Training is a lynchpin tenet in the value-chain of OGT Civils operations. For us capacity building goes beyond ensuring project success. It is a fundamental in fostering human development. Equally, external training also comes into play for employees in upholding highest level of compliance.

General Workforce: OGT Civils thrives at all times to provide training in all forms and sizes. Through the training interventions undertaken, we have consistently proven that each of our employees is indeed trainable with no consideration of their level of education. A compulsory Toolbox Talks are held every week and on each site of operation. In being a caring entity, OGT Civils persistently commits to giving tools, advice and support as part of general life skills.

Hence it with a great sense of achievement that we have through our training efforts created permanent job opportunities within the company for numerous part-time workers in a number of staffing categories. Whenever potential showcases itself, we recruit with the intention to transform a life.

Professional Workforce: In harnessing the potential of our staff members; technical and management training are key motivational elements for upward mobility and in inculcating an organisational knowledge base.

EPWP Training:

In respect of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), management members have undergone the NQF Level 5 and 7 Labour Intensive Construction Methods Training for Construction Managers. OGT intends to afford further training in NQF Level 4 (foreman/Supervisor) to other personnel as a means of capacitating them in labour intensive construction projects. This we commit to in an endeavour to channel all benefits attained through EPWP into the projects in which we are involved.

Health and Safety

In-House: Basic but of utmost importance is our emphasis on safety training and first-aid. In upholding all norms and standards, OGT Civils appointed a dedicated manager to this task. Our stance in fostering a culture of occupational health and safety that cuts across our service offerings.

We have consistently invested in Occupational Health and Safety training over the years. The implementation of Risk Management Strategies are a proactive effort in applying control measures to mitigate personal injury.

Stakeholders: Health and Safety remains an apex priority in joint-ventures an projects concerning communities. OGT is principally in support of external inspections hence we have proactively kept directory and initiated liaisons with the relevant officials in the three spheres of government whose purview concerns this critical area of work in relation to inspection, compliance and enforcement. We strictly believe in no-incidences operations and have to date been fatality-free in our waste management and mining operations.

Environment

OGT Civils commits to an anti-environmental degradation regime. This in ensuring that none of our operations would be in conflict with efforts aimed at promoting the preservation of the environment. It is for this very reason that we have now delved into renewables in an all-out-effort to contribute towards the protection of our natural ecosystem (see www.ogtenergy.co.za).

In-House: Technical compliance is of utmost importance to us. Hence we have in our structure a professional with the relevant expertise and experience to offer counsel, inculcate internal knowledge base and serve as a point of liaison with external stakeholders. OGT Civils prides itself with its grasp of environmental statutes and a no-tolerance to transgressions such as excessive dust, pollution and groundwater contamination.

Stakeholders: We are cognizant of the prescripts of the National Environmental Act of 2008 and its legalities in respect of the activities of private companies. It is for this reason that it is a company culture to involve communities in spreading awareness around the impact of our operations. We take great care in ensuring that our partners equally bear a sound understanding of the environmental statutes and agree to a pact of upholding the health and wellbeing of humans and the protection of plant and animal life.
